One of the main things that made us appreciate wood as art is growing up in Northern California surrounded by the redwoods. It was so majestic and so humbling to be standing underneath these giants. That feeling that it gives you when you are out in nature just being in awe of it, that has stayed with us for decades.
The way it all started was when Jerry, one of our founders and designers, was living down in Costa Rica and had seen a huge tree that had fallen down right behind a person’s home. The tree had been cut into large round slices. “From the moment I saw the pieces leaning against the trunk I saw the table design the chairs how it would look to the smallest detail,” and so the journey to Madera Mañana had begun.
This is about bringing all of the elements together. It starts with the piece. What are you looking to say about the space you want to create with beautiful pieces. We want the pieces that we create for clients to be conversation starters. A lot of the species we carry no one else has here in the states and that in itself is a conversation starter.
We only have one world and here at Madera Mañana we are very passionate about being responsible for doing things in a way that leaves the world better than when we arrived on it. We don’t appreciate clearcutting, we don’t appreciate taking some species in the world that are in danger and harvesting them out of existence. Like animals and humans that are on this earth, we need trees we need these things to be around in harmony. All of our products are harvested sustainably. We probably replant thousands and thousands of trees a year back into the surrounding areas in which we get the actual trees from so that there could be generations after us that get to enjoy these beautiful trees.
When we were first contacted about the availability of the exotic hardwood that has been underneath the lakes we were excited to see what mother nature had in store for us. We had no idea how gorgeous the mixture of water and pressure would have on the grains of the heartwood. What comes out is so unique that it exceeded our expectations. Mother nature has given us a gift and we feel so fortunate to be able to offer these gorgeous pieces to our clients. Also, the fact that it doesn’t harm the ecosystem and cut down a tree from a living growing forest that’s giving oxygen to the earth made it completely in line with our integrity of what we are doing here and our mission to be good tenants of the planet.
We love trees, we love art and we love bringing those things together for our clients. It has been a gift to be able to create with artists to do metalwork, epoxy and other mediums and bring those mediums into the design of not only our tables but the design of the art that we offer for walls, for desks, for corporate settings, for outside and all other rooms.
We are looking forward to sitting down with our clients and creating something beautiful, functional and specific to your needs and wants. We have a huge inventory of finished work, or you can choose from our giant stock of wood slabs and create a custom piece.
“If physics allows it, chances are we can deliver it to you.”
Please reach out to us. We would be happy to help you create your next custom piece of legacy furniture.
All our pieces are handbuilt, signed and numbered by Madera Mañana and given Certificate of Authentication.
